I made these pants back in 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic. I love these pants they are unique. First, I started with the lace fabric. Inspiration started here. I need pants so I will make those. Lace is see though so I will need to line them. Fully lined so people can check out my pants instead of how much skin is showing. At the time I was adding ribbon and embroidery to everything. I was unable to decide what colour ribbon, so I went with all the colours.
Many years later and many wears they are wearing out. Between my thighs the lace is going to holes. I can’t get rid of these pants I love them. I can’t remake them. Sure, I can reuse the pattern and making something similar. Somethings cannot be remade. The plan is to repair them so I can get a few more years out of them. My domestic sewing machine as a darning setting so I will try that out.
Testing
This is my fist time using the test the darning stitch. With some scrap calico I cut a small haole into it. The sewing machine is set to stitch 22 the darning stitch. I double check the instructions. The needle is on the left and side. Scrap fabric is placed under the foot with the hole a tiny bit to the right. I start sewing so it the stitching is longer than the hole. When I get to the right length I press the reverse button. The machine remembers how many stitches this is. Next the machine goes up and down 14 times. Not wide enough so I had to go a second time. This went better than I expected. Fabric a little bunched up.
Pants Time
Now I know how to do it lets repair my pants. I slide my pants under my machine. Starting from the left of the hole. Going towards the seam. I do wonder if it would be better going the opposite direction. This was peaceful to do. You sew the length you want. Press reverse and watch the machine go up and down. When first batch is done shift the garment and go again. I found it remembered the stitch length between each batch. So, I had to get the machine to reset itself by changing to a different stitch and back again. Some places the stitching needed to be longer than others. Afterwards I tried it on to see how it will feel. They are comfy. No rough texture.
